Tech Giants in Talks with Indian Government for Local GPU Production

NEW DELHI – Global technology leaders Nvidia, AMD, and HPE are reportedly engaged in discussions with the Indian government to establish local production of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). This move comes as India aims to bolster its technological self-reliance and become a key player in the global semiconductor market. 

Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the talks are focused on potential partnerships and incentives to set up manufacturing facilities in India. The government is keen to attract major players in the semiconductor industry, offering support through its production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and other initiatives. 
GPUs have become increasingly crucial for various applications, including artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and gaming. Local production would not only reduce India’s dependence on imports but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth.  

While no official statements have been released by the companies or the government, industry experts suggest that this development could significantly impact India’s technology landscape. The establishment of GPU manufacturing capabilities would be a major step towards realizing the country’s vision of becoming a global tech hub.
